Bed Sore (Dushta Vrana)

Ayurvedic Medicine for Bed SoreBedsore or pressure ulcer may be correlated with dushta vrana in Ayurveda. We have already discussed about dushta vrana in separate post. You may also refer Rakta mokshana (blood letting). In bloodletting, Jalauka avacharana (leech therapy) is recommended in case of bedsore because it is painless and suitable for weak and emaciated patients. As we know, bed sore is commonly caused due to long term bedridden condition in a chronic disease when patient needs complete bed rest. In this article we will discuss in brief on all the suggestive treatments available in Ayurveda.

Local Ayurvedic medicine for bed Sore – 

  1. Nimba kwath (decoction made from Neem tree leaves) or Triphala Kwath (mixture of Haritaki, Baheda and Amalaki) is used to clean the wound with the help of cotton or as a wash by dhara (pouring liquid in affected part).
  2. Jatyadi Taila (Oil) or Jatyadi Ghritam (ghee) is applied in wound. It acts as a disinfectant, and having antimicrobial property and helps in fast healing.
  3. Jalauka avacharana (leech therapy) is also recommended in non healing wound. It is performed by an expert in Ayurvedic clinics or hospital.

Internal Ayurvedic Medicines for Bed Sore – 

Dosage and choice of Ayurvedic medicine may be different in different cases. Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for bed sore –

1. Tal Sindur- 2 gm

Giloya Sat- 10 gm

Rasa Manikya- 2 gm

Punarnava Mandur- 10 gm

Chopchinyadi Churna- 10 gm

– Mix all of the above mentioned medicinal combination and make 50 parts from them. Take 1 part twice a day with honey or water empty stomach.
2.Gandhaka Rasayan Tablet- 250 mg

Arogya Vardhini Vati- 250 mg

– Take both tablets twice a day with lukewarm water after meal.

Other Ayurvedic medicine for bed sore –

  • Sarivadyasava – 15 ml to 20 ml mixed with equal quantity of water, twice a day after meal.
  • Mahamanjishthadi Kwatha – 15 ml to 20 ml mixed with equal quantity of water, twice a day after meal.
  • Khadirarishta – 15 ml to 20 ml mixed with equal quantity of water, twice a day after meal.
  • Amritarishta – 15 ml to 20 ml mixed with equal quantity of water, twice a day after meal.
  • Shonitamritam kashayam – 15 ml to 20 ml mixed with 60 ml of water, twice a day 1 hour before meal.
  • Gugulu tiktakam ghritam – 10 gm at bedtime with lukewarm milk or water.
  • Mahatiktaka ghrita – 10 gm at bedtime with lukewarm milk or water.

Anemia (Pandu Roga)

Anemia or anaemia is a condition of decrease in RBCs (red blood cells) or hemoglobin (Hb) in the blood. In Ayurveda, it may be correlated with Pandu Roga. Ayurvedic Medicine for Anemia 

Dosage and choice of Ayurvedic medicine may be different in different cases. Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for anemia–

1.Giloy Sat: 10 gm

Prawal Panchamrita: 5 gm

Mandura Bhasma: 5 gm

Abhraka Bhasma: 5 gm

Mukta Pishti: 2 gm

Mix all of the above mentioned medicinal combination and make 40 parts from them. Take 1 part twice with honey or water empty stomach.
2.Punarnavadi Mandur: 250 mg

Chandraprabha Vati: 500 mg

Take both tablets twice with water after meal.
3.Lohasava: 10 ml

Drakshasava: 10 ml

Mix each of above two with 20 ml of water, and take twice after meal.

Other Ayurvedic medicine for anemia –

  • Mandura Vatakam – 250 mg to 500 mg twice a day before meal.
  • Amritarishta – 15 ml to 20 ml mixed with equal quantity of water, twice a day after meal.
  • Navayas Louh – 125 mg to 250 mg twice a day before meal.
  • Dhatri Louh – 125 mg to 250 mg twice a day before meal.
  • Saptamrit Louh – 125 mg to 250 mg twice a day before meal.
  • Rohitakarishta – 15 ml to 20 ml mixed with equal quantity of water, twice a day after meal.

Yoga Advice –

Pranayama like Anuloma viloma, Kapalbhanti and Bhastrika pranayama are found very effective in various case of anemia. Actually Pranayama are nothing but breathing techniques or breathing exercise which can be performed easily by anyone. There are some techniques which you can learn through online videos or under guidance of Yoga experts.

Allergy (Pratyurjata)

Allergies or allergic disorders are conditions of hypersensitivity of immune system of the body or hyper response to something in environment which causes problem. This may be in the form of skin allergy, fever, respiratory problem or other. Pratyurjata is a term by which we may correlate allergy in Ayurveda. As there are n number of variation in the sign and symptoms of responses of body immune system towards allergens (any substance or particle which causes allergy), Ayurvedic medicine for allergy is also different in different conditions. Ayurvedic Medicine for Allergy 

Dosage and choice of Ayurvedic medicine may be different in different cases. Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for respiratory allergy –

1.Rasa Manikya: 2 gm

Sitopladi Churna:  10 gm

(or Talisadi churna if dry cough)

Abhraka Bhasma: 5 gm

Prawal Pishti: 10 gm

Haridra Khand: 50 gm

Mix all of the above mentioned medicinal combination and take 5 gm twice with honey or lukewarm water empty stomach.
2.Laxmivilas Rasa:  500 mgtwice daily with honey or lukewarm water.
3.Chyavanprasha Avaleha:5-10 gm twice daily after meal for 15 days and then take it only at night after meal. It can be continued twice in cold weather.
4.If constipation is also there, take Trifala Churna or Avipattikara Churna: 5 gm with lukewarm water at bed time.

Other Ayurvedic medicine for respiratory allergy – 

  • Dashmoola jeerakadi Kashayam – 15 ml mixed with 60 ml of lukewarm water, twice daily 1 hour before breakfast and dinner.
  • Swasijeevanam Lehyam – 10 gm at bedtime.

Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for allergic problems related to skin:

1.Rasa Manikya: 5 gm

Tal Sindur: 2 gm

Prawal Pishti: 10 gm

Giloy Sat: 10 gm

Avipattikar Churna: 20 gm

Mix all of the above mentioned medicinal combination and make 30 parts from them. Take 1 part three times a day with honey or water empty stomach.
2.Arogyavardhini Vati- 500 mg

Chandanadi Vati- 250 mg

Take twice daily with lukewarm water after meal.
3.Haridrakhand5-10 gm twice daily after meal for 15 days and then take it only at night after meal
4.If constipation is also there, take Trifala Churna or Avipattikara Churna: 5 gm with lukewarm water at bed time.

Other Ayurvedic medicine for skin allergy – 

  • Gandhak Rasayan – 125 mg to 250 mg twice a day before meal with water.
  • Mahamanjishthadi Kwatha or Kadha – 15 ml to 20 ml mixed with equal quantity of water, twice a day after meal.
  • Mahamanjishthadi Kashayam – 15 ml mixed with 60 ml of lukewarm water, twice daily 1 hour before breakfast and dinner.
  • Sarivadi Vati – 250 mg to 500 mg twice a day before meal with water.

Leucorrhea (Shweta Pradara)

Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for leucorrhea-

1.Pushyanug Churna2-3 gm twice daily with water empty stomach
2.Giloy Sat: 5 gm

Trivang Bhasma: 2.5 gm

Kamdudha Rasa: 2.5 gm

Sphatika Bhasm: 5 gm

Rasmanikya: 2.5 gm

Punarnavadi Mandur: 5 gm

Mix all of these medicinal combinations and make 30 parts from them. Take 1 part twice daily with honey or water empty stomach.
3.Gokshuradi Gugul- 500 mg

Chandraprabha Vati- 500 mg

Twice with water after meal.
4.Patrangasava- 10 ml

Chandanasava- 10 ml

Mix both with 20 ml of water and take it twice daily after meal.
5.If constipation is also there, take Trifala Churna or Avipattikar Churna: 5gm with lukewarm water at bed time.
6.Vaginal douse or wash with Trifala and Nimba patra qwatha.

Endometriosis (Garbhashayakala Shotha)

Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for endometriosis-

1.Giloy Sat: 5 gm

Trivang Bhasma: 2.5 gm

Prawal Pishti: 5 gm

Vasantakusumakar Rasa: 1 gm

Punarnavadi Mandur: 5 gm

Godanti Bhasma: 5 gm

Mix all of these medicinal combinations and make 30 parts from them. Take 1 part twice daily with honey or water empty stomach.
2.Gokshuradi Gugul- 500 mg

Chandraprabha Vati- 500 mg

Pushpadhanva Ras- 250 mg

Twice with water after meal.
3.Ashokarishta- 10 mlMix both with 20 ml of water and take it twice daily after meal.
4.If constipation is also there, take Trifala Churna or Avipattikar Churna: 5 gm with lukewarm water at bed time.

Dysmenorrhea (Krichchha Artava)

Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for dysmenorrhea-

1.Rajah Pravartini Vati- 500 mg

Chandraprabha Vati- 500 mg

Punarnavadi Mandur- 500 mg

Twice with water after meal.
2.Ashokarishta- 10 ml

Dashmoolarishta- 10 ml

Mix both with 20 ml of water and take it twice daily after meal.
3.If constipation is also there, take Trifala Churna or Avipattikar Churna- 5 gm with lukewarm water at bed time.

Amenorrhea (Anartava)

Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for Amenorrhea (also spelled as amenorrhoea)-

1.Giloy Sat: 5 gm

Trivang Bhasma: 5 gm

Vasantkusumakara Rasa: 1 gm

Nashtapushpantaka Rasa: 5 gm

Pushpadhanva Ras: 10 gm

Mix all of these medicinal combinations and make 30 parts from them. Take 1 part twice daily with honey or lukewarm water empty stomach.
2.Rajah Pravartini Vati- 500 mg

Chandraprabha Vati- 500 mg

Punarnavadi Mandur- 500 mg

Twice daily with water after meal.
3.Ashokarishta- 10 ml

Saraswatarishta- 10 ml

Mix both with 20 ml of water and take it twice daily after meal.
4.If constipation is also there, take Trifala Churna or Avipattikar Churna: 5 gm with lukewarm water at bed time.

Vomiting (Chhardi)

Common cause of vomiting is infection, which may be due to gastritis, regurgitation in neonates, indigestion, excessive alcohol, excessive eating, forceful feeding, infective hepatitis, intestinal obstruction, peptic ulcer, worm infestation, morning sickness in early pregnancy. Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for vomiting-

1.Giloy Sat: 5 gm

Kamdudha Ras: 10 gm

Mayurpichha/ Mayurchandrika Bhasm: 5 gm

Mukta Pishti: 2 gm

Hingwashtaka Churna: 10 gm

Mix all of these medicinal combinations and make 21 parts. Take 1 part three times a day with water empty stomach.
2.Avipattikar ChurnaTake 2-3 gm (1/2 tsf) twice daily with water after meal.

 

3.Eladi VatiSuck 1 tab (250 mg) 4-5 times a day like a candy.

Hepatitis (Yakrita Shotha)

Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for hepatitis along with these advise-

  • Complete bed rest is advised.
  • Low fat, high carbohydrate diet is recommended.
  • Avoid fried food, butter, ghee.
  • Patient should have boiled water to drink.
1.Prawal Panchamrita Rasa: 5 gm

Giloya Sat: 5 gm

Swarna makshik Bhasm: 5 gm

Swarna basant Malti: 2 gm

Kamdudha Rasa: 10 gm

Kasis Bhasma: 5 gm

Kalmegh Churna- 20 gm

Mix all of these medicinal combinations and make 60 parts. Take 1 part twice daily with honey or water empty stomach.
2.Arogyavardhini Vati- 250 mg

Punarnavadi Mandur- 250 mg

Take twice daily with water after meal.

 

3.Kumaryasava OR Punarnavasava- 15 mlMix with 15 ml of water and take it twice daily after meal.
4.Avipattikar Churna5 gm twice daily with water after meal

Swelling and Bleeding of Gums (Danta Veshtaka)

Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for swelling and bleeding of gums-

1.Giloy Sat: 10 gm

Kasis Bhasm: 5 gm

Rasmanikya: 2 gm

Kaharva Pishti: 10 gm

Shuddha Swarna Gairika: 5 gm

Mix all of these medicinal combinations and make 30 parts. Take 1 part twice daily with honey or water empty stomach.
2.Arogyavardhini Vati- 250 mg

Punarnavadi Vati- 250 mg

Bolbaddha Ras- 250 mg

Twice daily with honey or lukewarm water after meal.
3.Khadiradi VatiSuck 1 tab (250 mg) 4-5 times a day like a candy.
  • The commonest cause of bleeding and swelling of gums is scurvy. Uses of citrus fruits like lemon, oranges, Amla etc. are advised.

Stomatitis and Glossitis (Mukha Paka)

Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for stomatitis and glossitis-

1.Avipattikar Churna- 60 gm

Mukta Pishti: 2 gm

Giloy Sat: 5 gm

Kamdudha Ras: 5 gm

Kaharva Pishti: 5 gm

Mix all of these medicinal combinations and take 1 tsf (5 gm) twice a day with water empty stomach.
2.Khadiradi VatiSuck 1 tab (250 mg) 4-5 times a day like a candy.
3.Drink khus shrabat (sweet drink) 50-100 ml twice daily after meal.

Pain in Abdomen (Udara shoolam)

Abdomen is divided into 9 imaginary quadrants. Pain in each quadrant may be due to underlying organ or referred from other organ with common nerve root. And hence treatment will vary according to the cause and related organ. Please correlate clinically for effective treatment.

Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for  pain in epigastric region-

1.Godanti Bhasm: 10 gm

Kamdudha Ras: 5 gm

Hingwashtak Churna: 25 gm

Shankha Bhasm: 5 gm

Mix all of these medicinal combinations and make 30 parts. Take 1 part three times a day with honey/ cow’s ghee or water empty stomach.
2.Trifla Gugul- 500 mg

Shoola Varjrini Ras (Vati)- 250 mg

Dhanwantaram Vati- 250 mg

Twice daily with lukewarm water after meal.
3.Kumaryasava OR

Abhayarishta- 15 ml

Mix with 15 ml of water. Take it twice daily after meal.

Pain and Itching Around Peri Anal Region (Guda Kandu)

Commonest causes of pain and itching around peri-anal region are frequent passage of stools during the attack of dysentery, worm infestation, and piles. Also refer to respective posts. Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for pain and itching around peri-anal region due to worm infestation-

Mouth Ulcers (Mukhapaka/ Vrana)

1.Avipattikar Churna: 2-3 gmTake 2-3 gm (1/2 tsf) twice daily with water empty stomach.
2.Khadiradi VatiSuck 1 tab (250 mg) 4-5 times a day like a candy.
3.Kumaryasava- 15 mlMix with 15 ml of water and take it twice daily after meal.
4.Gargle with Trifala Quath twice daily after meal.

Loose motion (Atisara)

Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for loose motion-

1.Bilwadi Churna- 3 gm

Pushyanug Churna- 2 gm

Take both with water empty stomach twice daily.
2.Kutajghan Vati- 500 mg

Bolbaddha Ras (If associated with blood in stool)- 250 mg

Twice or three times a day with water after meal (depends on the frequency).
3.Kutajarishta- 15 mlMix with 15 ml of water. Take it twice daily after meal.

Hiccup (Hikka Roga)

Commonest cause of hiccup is gastro-intestinal disturbance. Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for hiccup-

1.Mayurpichha/ Mayurchandrika Bhasma: 5 gm

Giloy Sat: 5 gm

Shankh Bhasm: 5 gm

Shwas Kuthar Ras: 10 gm

Mix all of these medicinal combinations and make 30 parts. Take 1 part three times a day with honey/ cow’s ghee or water empty stomach.
2.Hingwashtak ChurnaTake 2-3 gm (1/2 tsf) twice daily with lukewarm water after meal.

Gorochanadi Vati- 125 mg

Twice daily with lukewarm water after meal.

Hematemesis (Rakta Vamana)

1.Kaharva Pishti: 10 gm

Kamdudha Rasa: 2 gm

Sangeyashab Pishti: 10 gm

Heart Burn (Uro Daha/ Amla Pitta)

Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for gastroenteritis-

1.Giloya Sat: 10 gm

Kamdudha Ras: 10 gm

Panchamrit Parpati: 5 gm

Shankha Bhasm: 5 gm

Swarna Basant Malti Ras: 1 gm

Mix all of these medicinal combinations and make 30 parts. Take 1 part twice daily with honey or cow’s ghee or water empty stomach.
2.Sootshekhar Rasa- 250 mg

Punarnavadi Vati- 250 mg

Arogyavardhini Vati- 250 mg

Twice daily with water after meal.

 

3.Kumaryasava- 15 mlMix with 15 ml of water. Take it twice daily after meal.
4.Avipattikar Churna (if constipation)5-10 gm at bedtime with lukewarm water.

1.Prawal Panchamrita Rasa: 5 gm

Giloya Sat: 10 gm

Shankha Bhasma: 5 gm

Shivakshar Pachak Churna: 25 gm

Mix all of these medicinal combinations and make 30 parts. Take 1 part twice daily with honey/ cow’s ghee or water empty stomach.
2.Sootshekhar Rasa- 250 mg

Arogyavardhini Vati- 500 mg

Twice daily with water after meal.
3.Avipattikar Churna3-5 gm at bedtime with lukewarm water.

Flatulence (Udara Vayu)

Following Ayurvedic medicines are suggested for flatulence, bloating or gas trouble-

1.Hingwashtak Churna2-3 gm twice daily with lukewarm water after meal.
2.Trifla Gugul- 500 mg

Arogyavardhini Vati- 250 mg

Twice daily with lukewarm water after meal.

1.Swarna Sootshekhar Ras- 125 mgOnce or twice a day empty stomach with cow’s ghee/ honey or water.
2.Prawal Panchamrita: 5 gm

Giloya Sat: 5 gm

Amalaki Rasayan- 25 mg

3.Chandanadi Vati- 250 mg

Shoola Vajrini Ras (Vati)- 250 mg

Twice daily with water after meal.

 

4.Avipattikar Churna3- 5 gm twice daily with water after meal.
